1st Night of Christmas Parade gets many compliments

2010 Oskaloosa Lighted Christmas Parade

The first of 2 nights for the Oskaloosa Lighted Christmas Parade was a success to many in attendance this year.

Oskaloosa’s Main Street Lighted Christmas Parade has become a major holiday attraction across Iowa bringing thousands of spectators to town every year. It don’t seem to matter, they come by the car load, all the way up to chartered buses. The weekend after Thanksgiving turns downtown into a festive attraction for young and old alike.

The theme this year is “Christmas in the Heartland”. The parade takes off marching and snaking it’s way around historic downtown Oskaloosa. Along the route you will find shopping, food vendors, and of course the all important warm drinks of the holidays.

The Mayor and those at the Chamber worked out a deal this year again to bring Santa and Mrs. Claus back to Oskaloosa to kick off the holiday right. From what I hear, some of the reindeer made a stop as well on this early visit to town.

Just because the parade is over, don’t mean the festivities are.

There is of course, one more night of the parade on the 3rd. Also on Friday is the art show at the Iowa Building from 1 to 8 pm as well as a Main Street Holiday Style Show and Luncheon, Friday, December 3rd at 11:30 a.m. sponsored by the Oskaloosa Area Chamber & Dev. Group. This style show will feature local fashions, accessories, door prizes, fabulous food and FUN.
