As students finish their final exams and leave campus for their holiday break, the Applied Computer Science Program at William Penn University is preparing for a special event to celebrate National Computer Science Education Week.

On Saturday, December 12, the community is invited to attend and participate a variety of computer science activities at the Musco Technology Center on the Oskaloosa campus. This event is free and no reservations are necessary.

From 9:00–10:15 am, join in the world-wide Hour of Code by doing hands-on computer activities involving Star Wars, Minecraft, Anna & Elsa from Frozen, Angry Birds or JavaScript. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. William Penn Computer Club members will be there to help guide you through tutorials designed for ages 4–104.

From 10:15–11:00 am and 12:00–12:45 pm, view William Penn applied computer science students’ projects and interact with the programmers/designers/builders.

At 11:00 am–12:00 pm and 12:45–1:30 pm, come watch teams from the First Tech Challenge Archibald League compete to see which team’s robot can successfully complete the assigned tasks on the course. The First Tech Challenge is designed for students in grades 7–12 to compete head to head. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams.
