Transgender Day of Remembrance To Be Observed
St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ will observe Transgender Day of Remembrance during its worship service this Sunday, November 22, at 10:00 am.
Transgender Day of Remembrance is a national day of mourning for transgender persons who have lost their lives through murder or suicide in the past year. It is also a day to renew our commitment as Christians to stand with the transgender community whenever their rights and dignity as human beings are under attack.
Over the past decade, more than one person a month has died due to transgender hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, and publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. In this way, we express our love and respect for them in the face of national indifference and hatred.
St. Paul Congregational United Church of Christ is an “Open and Affirming” congregation that welcomes all people regardless of gender identity and expression or sexual orientation to participate fully in the life of its congregation.
