City councilor elect Steve Burnett during the Oskaloosa News forum at the end of September.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The dust has settled from the 2015 city elections, and one incumbent council member retains his position, while another was unseated.

For the Mayor of Oskaloosa position, incumbent Dave Krutzfeldt ran unopposed, as did 2nd Ward Councilmember Tom Jimenez.

In the At-Large race, incumbent Joe Caligiuri defeated challenger Jimmy Carter. After the votes were counted, Caligiuri said that he was looking forward to continuing the progress the council has made in the past 4 years, such as infrastructure repair, corridor improvements and housing.

Caligiuri said that concentrating on housing issues in the community will be his top priority.

In the 4th Ward, Steve Burnett unseated the incumbent Jason Van Zetten from the council.

Burnett said that once he’s sworn in, he intends to listen and to learn. “You can’t learn by talking a lot, so you listen a lot and put in input where people ask for it.”

Burnett also expressed his desire to look at the housing situation in Oskaloosa.

The local option sales tax is something else that has Burnett’s attention recently. “There’s lots of folks that want that money,” said Burnett, who pointed out proposed projects like early-childhood development and recreation, environmental learning center and infrastructure.

Burnett said he hopes to be able to help make decisions that will positively impact Oskaloosa in the future, while addressing the issues of today.

Unofficial Results are as follows:

Mayor
Dave Krutzfeldt – 770

2nd Ward
Tom Jimenez – 150

4th Ward
Jason Van Zetten – 137
Steve Burnett – 241

At-Large
