WPU Held Scoreless in Heart Opener by No. 22 Benedictine

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s soccer team was unable to break through against No. 22 Benedictine as it dropped its Heart of America Athletic Conference opener 3-0 Saturday.

William Penn (3-2, 0-1 Heart) only allowed 13 shots by the Ravens (5-0, 1-0 Heart), but the hosts managed just three attempts in the shutout.

BC broke through in the 16th minute, but was held off the scoreboard the remainder of the first stanza.

The visitors the opened up the contest with a goal in the 51st minute, and put it away with another tally in the 77th minute. Overall, Benedictine posted a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Hadley Wolfe (Fr., Fort Madison, Iowa, Elementary Education) paced the offense with two shots (one on goal), while Emma Billings (Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Psychology) kept the game close with six saves.

“We got beat by a team that will finish at the top of the conference,” Head Coach Kaleb Preston said. “Hopefully we can learn from these moments and grow into the rest of conference play.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Davenport next Wednesday to face St. Ambrose in Heart play at 7 p.m.
