Iowa Wood Preservers Moves Forward With Expansion

With site approval from the Oskaloosa City Council at their last meeting, Iowa Wood Preservers (IWP) is ready to move forward with the latest phase of a major expansion project that eventually will include over $1.1 million in capital investment and several new jobs.

“Iowa Wood is glad to be part of the Oskaloosa community and we’re excited to be doing our part to bring more jobs and investment to the area,” said IWP Plant Manager, Jeremy Jorgensen. “We considered making these investments in other locations, but decided that Oskaloosa is the best place for us to grow our business.” IWP produces pressure treated lumber for wholesalers and retails throughout the region, but is expanding into new markets. One example of these new markets is providing lumber for guardrails to state transportation departments throughout the United States.

The site plan approved by the city council includes a new 10,000 square foot facility that will provide space for long term growth. Over the past three year, IWP has seen tremendous growth increasing production volumes, adding multiple new facilities, and integrating major new equipment to the production process. Although a relatively small employer in Oskaloosa with 16 employees, the four new manufacturing jobs at IWP represent a 33 percent growth in employment.

IWP acquired the three acre site on which the new facility is being constructed from Mahaska Community Development Group (MCDG). Jorgensen thanked MCDG for their assistance throughout the process and added, “We were fortunate to partner with MCDG on this project. They worked with us on finding the right mechanism to acquire the some prime industrial land.”

“The growth of IWP is exactly the type of economic development that we’re seeing throughout the county,” said MCDG Executive Director, Andrew Jensen. “Existing quality employers expanding into new markets, strengthening positions in existing markets, and adding high quality jobs. We’re fortunate to have IWP as a partner in this community.”
