Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s soccer squad could not come up with its second upset of a ranked foe this fall as it lost 3-0 to #19 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) in Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent play Saturday.

William Penn (7-5-1, 4-2 Heart) was outshot just 5-4 in the first 45 minutes, but trailed 1-0 at the break. The Pioneers (9-3-1, 4-1 Heart) got on the board in the 28th minute and remained on top when Sergio Carro (Sr., London, England, Communications) was unable to capitalize on a penalty kick opportunity after an MNU player was called for a handball violation in the box.

MidAmerica Nazarene pushed the lead to 2-0 early in the second half and capped the afternoon’s scoring in the 70th minute.

Andrew Valett (Sr., Davenport, Iowa, Physical Education) and Facundo Benitez (Jr., Buenos Aires, Argentina, Business Management) recorded two shots each as the Pioneers held a 15-8 edge in total shots.

Max Stamer (Fr., Salzgitter, Germany, Secondary Education) posted a four-save effort Saturday.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa next Wednesday to face Waldorf in non-conference action at 5:30 p.m.
