Oskaloosa, Iowa – All paws lined up and were ready to go Saturday morning for the 4th annual Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter K-9 and Dog Walk.

“This is the second real one,” jokes Lindsey Sime, Executive Director at Stephen Memorial. The other two 5k events were washed out due to rain.

On Saturday, there was little threat of rain, as the sun was shining and the weather cooperated completely.

Another fun feature of the day was the ‘Radar Run’. Participants sent their dog running down a chute, while an Oskaloosa police officer clocked the dog with a radar gun.

For Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter, the 5k event is important for them. This year it helped them to raise nearly $12,000 dollars. That money is used to buy supplies needed to take care of the animals brought into the shelter.

The fundraisers, like the 5k and caramel apple sales, make up a significant portion of the shelter’s budget. Government funds account for approximately 30% of all revenue to the shelter, and then the balance comes from donations and adoption fees.

If you are looking for a new adoptable pet, or want to further help the shelter out, you can find out more information on their website HERE.
