Thursday October 8, 2015 approximately 12:30 a.m. a report of came into the Monroe County Law Enforcement Center of a stolen vehicle leaving the BP Station in Albia and heading north from that location.

A Monroe County Deputy made initial contact with the suspect vehicle on US Hwy 5 north of Albia. While attempting to conduct a traffic stop the vehicle attempted to elude the deputy. The vehicle eventually stopped on the south edge of Lovilla. The driver was taken into custody. A second stolen vehicle was then found abandon in the travel portion of Hwy 5 further south of Lovilla.

During the investigation it was determined that there were at least two other vehicle that had been stolen in Albia, one of the vehicles had been in front of the vehicle that attempted to elude the Monroe County Deputy.

Marion County located the other stolen vehicle and a chase ensued, which ended in Oskaloosa.

Eventually four juveniles were taken into custody and taken to the Monroe County Law Center. Three of the juveniles were from Des Moines and one from Pleasant Hill.

During the investigation it was determined that there was a fourth vehicle that had been stolen from a residence in Albia but was left abandon in a yard. It was also determined that there several unlocked vehicles entered and cash and other items taken.

Each of the juveniles were charged with Theft 2nd (Class D Felony) and Conspiracy (Class D Felony). One juvenile charge with Theft 5th (Simple Misdemeanor). Another juvenile was charged with Felony Eluding, Speed, Reckless Driving and possession of stolen property. Another with reckless driving and attempted murder, when he forced the pursuing deputy off the road.

All four juveniles were transferred to juvenile detention in Eldora.

Oskaloosa News spoke with Oskaloosa Police Chief Jake McGee about the pursuit that ended in Oskaloosa.

McGee said that the Oskaloosa Police Department deployed stop-sticks at the Muchakinock Creek and mile marker 179 west of Oskaloosa along Highway 92.

One of the vehicles was stopped at the DOT shop west of Oskaloosa, and a second vehicle made it to the Wal-Mart parking lot where the final suspect was taken into custody.

Also assisting was the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office, with speeds in the pursuit reaching 110mph near Barrows Ave in Mahaska County.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
