Indianola–The Statesmen men’s golf team could not extend its title streak Wednesday as it finished in the middle of the standings at the Simpson Invitational.

William Penn finished fourth out of nine teams with a score of 311 at the par-71 Indianola Country Club. Wartburg took the team title at 299, while Trent Lindenman of host Simpson was the individual medalist at one-under 70.

Joshua Snyman (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Business Management) shot a 75 and tied for fifth (51 players) to lead the navy and gold. Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology), in a tie for 10th at 77, and Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government), in a tie for 16th at 78, also went under 80 at the Invitational.

Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) posted the final score that counted with an 81 to tie for 25th. John Baumunk (Jr., Sherrard, Ill., Business Management) (T-35th, 84) also played on the varsity crew.

The program’s top team was accompanied on the course by the second team (Blue) and third team (Gold). Gold actually bettered Blue by two strokes (328-330) to take seventh, while Blue placed eighth.

Zach Swink (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology) headlined the Gold effort at 77 (T-10th), while Cade Hartman (So., Las Vegas, Nev., Business Management) carded an 81 (T-25th), Bradley Hamilton (Fr., Earlham, Iowa, Physical Education) had an 84 (T-35th), and Ethan Powers (Sr., Tipton, Iowa, Physical Education) scored an 86 (46th).

Clay Tucker (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) was the best player for the Blue team, tying for 18th at 79. Peter Frederiksen (So., Hornslet, Denmark, Mechanical Engineering) was next in a tie for 33rd at 83, while Ben Roberts (Sr., Albia, Iowa, General Accounting) and Charlie Hayes (Jr., Whitesboro, Texas, History/Government) were both at 84 to tie for 35th. Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) had an 88 for 48th place.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Polk City next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Grand View Classic. Play will be contested at Tournament Club of Iowa Golf Course.
