Monday night the Freshman Indian Football Team went to Albia to battle the Blue Demons. The Indians came out fast and furious scoring on the first play of the game from 81 yards out to get the ball rolling and never slowed down. The final score of the game was the Indians winning by a score of 42-30 against a very good Albia team.

Offensively the Indians had one of their strongest showing of the year as they wrapped up 372 yards on the ground and another 141 yards through the air for a total output of 513 yards on the night. The ground attack was led by tailback, Casey Hill who ended up with 210 yards rushing on the night. Cole Henry was the lone QB who completed 6 out of 10 passes for 141 yards. The O-line were given the offensive player of the game award as Tucker Erwin, Tyson Breuklander, Hunter Else, Mason Hunter, and Alex Lobberecht were opening up huge holes all night as well as protecting their QB.

Scoring for the Indians on the night came in the following order. It was Coy Snakenberg on the first play of the game hauling in an 81 yard pass from Cole Henry. The second touchdown was a run of 4 yards by fullback Nik Dykstra. The third touchdown was a run by Cole Henry running around the outside for a gain of 7 yards and the 2pt conversion was a pass from Henry to Dykstra. The fourth touchdown of the game was by Nik Dykstra from 2 yards out and the 2 point conversion was a run by Cole Henry. This made the score 28-8 at halftime. The second half scoring started with a 13 yard run by Casey Hill for 6 points and the 2 points was a pass from Henry to Dykstra. The final score of the night came on a 7 yard run by Nik Dykstra to cap off the scoring at 42-30.

Defensively the team was led by the lineman as they were awarded the defensive player of the game honors. This group consisted of Stephen Steinbron, Tyson Breuklander, Jon Hendrickson, and Nik Dykstra. With Albia’s strong running attack they were tested all night long as well as the linebacker group of Payton Bandy, Riley Miller, Zaiyan Mamun, and Cole Kraber.

On the defense side of the ball the tackle leaders were Dykstra with 8 tackles, Mamun, Bandy, and Steinbron with 6 a piece, Miller with 5, the following having 3-4 tackles a piece were Jaidyn Barnes, Rashaun Braggs, Hendrickson, Kraber, Colton Orndorff, and gaining at least 1 tackle were Breuklander, Jacksen Kargol, Payton Strovers, Snakenberg, and Van Leuven

The Oskaloosa Indian freshmen’s next game will be Friday night at Chariton against the Chargers. Game starts at 4:45 and we hope to see you there.
