Bulldogs Stop Indians On The Road

Ottumwa, Iowa – Friday night’s match-up against the Ottumwa Bulldogs may not have went the way the Indians (0-2) and Oskaloosa Head Coach Mike Sterner may have liked, but the score wasn’t a true indication of how good the game was.

“Our kids are showing growth and they are excited to see it as much as we are,” said Sterner “Friday night did not go as we had hoped, with too many broken assignments and miscues to earn the win.”

“One of the momentum changers came after we turned the ball over and our defense appeared to get a turnover almost immediately, with Kyler Salazar running the other way toward 6 points; only to have the officials say it was blown dead,” explained Sterner of his reasoning that the game was better than the score appeared. Instead of the score showing the Indians with the 6 points, the Bulldogs had 6 more on that drive.

“Our young team continues to grow and improve, and we must overcome the obstacles that happen in every football game. I believe we have just the kids to make this happen,” said Sterner.

The Indians will have their work cut out for them on Friday, when they travel to the Class 3A and Number 1 ranked Pella Dutch, before returning home the following week.
