Dr. David C. Temple, age 68, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Des Moines and Osage Beach, MO, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015, surrounded by his family at Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House. David was Born, February 4, 1947, in Washington, IA, to Sikke David and Beulah Evelyn (Stewart) Temple, Dr. Temple was the oldest of eleven children.

David attended Keota High School, but a year prior to graduation, he was sent to the University of Iowa to continue his studies. He graduated in 1968 with a degree in chemistry and was then recruited to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At that time he was also required by the military to serve in the Naval Reserves in the Medical Service Corp. In 1972, he returned to the University of Iowa where he attended the College of Medicine and graduated in 1976. Dr. Temple completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran Hospital/Gunderson Clinic in Lacrosse, Wisconsin in 1979 before beginning medical practice with Dr. Paul From in Des Moines, IA.

David practiced medicine in the Des Moines area, serving at both Mercy Medical Center and Lutheran Hospital. After receiving his certification in geriatrics in 1990, he practiced for three years with CIGNA Health Plan of Arizona in Sun City, before returning to Des Moines. In 2003, David accepted a position as hospitalist with the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, Missouri. He remained in Missouri until 2014 when he retired to Oskaloosa.

August 7, 1982, David was united in marriage with JoAnna Ellen Ide at the First Presbyterian Church in Washington, Iowa. They made their home in Des Moines and were blessed with four children.

David was a true family man and was also very passionate about his career. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed military history books. He was also a loyal Hawkeye fan and, if possible, never missed watching a game. His dogs were very important to him and he thought of them as genuine members of the family.

His family includes his wife, Joanna of Oskaloosa; his daughters and sons-in-law: Sara (& Brad) Kloch of Scottsdale, AZ, and Alison (& Kevin) Sidwell of Des Moines; his sons and daughter-in-law: Adam Temple of Iowa City, and Gregory (& Jessica) Temple of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Matthew and Andrew Kloch, and Ava and Jackson Sidwell; and a grandchild expected to arrive in November; his parents, Sikke & Beulah Temple of Washington, IA; five brothers and their spouses: Bruce (& Jan) Temple of Ainsworth, Tim Temple of Washington, Jeff (& Shirley) Temple of Crawfordsville, Pete (& Marty) Temple of Defiance, and Warren (& Sheila) Temple of Keota; five sisters and their spouses: Mary Temple of Washington, Barb (& Denny) Cozad of Wichita, KS, Evelyn (& Francis) Greiner of Keota, Katie Temple (& John Reeve) of Runnels, and Dr. Beth Temple (& John Kirk) of Moline, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 22, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Cremation will follow the service.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
