Kathrine L. Crandall, 72, of Oskaloosa, died Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab. in Oskaloosa. She was born June 16, 1943, in Hartwig, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth and Bertha Cornelis Kuhn.

Katie graduated from Traer High School. She earned her B.A. in education from the University of Northern Iowa. On June 11, 1966, she was united in marriage to Don Crandall at Traer.

Katie started her teaching career in the Maxwell School District, she later taught at Grinnell. In 1967, she started teaching at Grant Elementary in Oskaloosa. Following the birth of her daughter she stayed home to care for her home and family. Once her children were in high school she re-entered the workforce and went to work at Jack and Jill Pre-School in Oskaloosa. She later worked for many years in the office at Mauer Supply in Oskaloosa. Last she worked at Kiddie College in University Park.

Katie was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed reading, gardening and being outdoors. She also loved animals, especially her cats. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren.

Her family includes her husband of over 49 years, Don Crandall of Oskaloosa; her daughter, Diane (& Gregory) Fagg of Monroe; her son, Russ (& Stacey) Crandall of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Chris Fagg, Jeff Fagg, Nicole Pierson, Gregory Fagg, Zach Fagg, Michael Fagg, Molly Crandall and Charlie Crandall; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Viola (& Larry) Barge of Traer; a brother-in-law, Aze Stoakes of Traer; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Ruth Stoakes.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 10, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Fr. John Spiegel officiating.
As was Katie’s wish her body has been cremated.
Burial of the cremated remains will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1-3 Sunday afternoon to greet friend and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.
