Des Moines, Iowa- On Tuesday, another Republican declared their candidacy for President of the United States. Donald Trump announced his candidacy in New York City late Tuesday morning. “You need somebody, because politicians are all talk, no action. Nothing’s gonna get done. They will not bring us, believe me, to the promised land. They will not,” Trump said in his speech at Trump Tower.

After making his announcement in New York City, Trump flew to Iowa for an event at the Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines. Trump started his remarks by complimenting the crowd. “The people of Iowa are hard-working people. That’s all you find,” he said.

Trump also reminisced on the 2012 Presidential Election. Trump had flirted with a bid, but ultimately endorsed Mitt Romney, the GOP Nominee. In his remarks, Trump took Romney to task for failing to beat President Obama. “I was very disappointed that our last candidate didn’t bring it home,” he said. Trump also said that he believed President Obama should never have been re-elected.

Trump also talked about victory in America. “We don’t have victory in this country anymore. When’s the last time we had a victory?” Trump asked. “We don’t win against China in trade. We don’t win against Mexico… We don’t win against Japan,” Trump said. Trump recounted the story of a friend of his who was forced to buy foreign made tractors for his company, because Caterpillar could not compete with the price of a Japanese company due to reduced Yen rates. “That’s emblematic of what’s happening to our country. And we have nobody to stop Japan from doing that, nobody to stop China from doing that,” Trump said.

Trump also touched on foreign relations. Trump said he had been asked what he would do to handle the situation with ISIS. Trump said he was reluctant to say exactly what he would do, saying he did not want to alert the enemy. However, to the crowd of 500, Trump was direct on one aspect of his plan. “They have four or five major, major oil hubs. You go up to each one of those things and you blast the hell out of them,” he said. “You kill the dragon at the head,” he continued.

At the end of his remarks, Trump took questions from the assembled crowd. One of the question was how he would beat Hillary Clinton in a general election match up. Trump answered by saying, “If you don’t have the right candidate, you’re not going to beat Hillary. With the democrats, you know what you have. I’m more disappointed with the Republicans,” He added, “Hillary can be beaten. You gotta go to e-mails. You gotta go to the foundation. You gotta go to a lot of different things. And I will tell you, in my opinion… there’s nobody that’s gonna beat her except Donald Trump.

At the start of Tuesday’s event, the crowd heard from a Donald Trump mega fan. 10 year old Shay Doyle of Waverly spoke to the crowd of a recent opportunity he had to visit with Donald Trump. Doyle said that Trump gave him advice on success. ‘Do what you love. Not what your mom and dad love, but do what you love and you will be happy,’ Doyle quoted.

Doyle also commented on Trumps candidacy. “I believe Mr. Trump’s leadership and vision will provide hope and progress for my generation.” Doyle added, “I have eight years before I can vote, so I am relying on all of you to vote for Mr. Trump for me.”
