Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning, November 20, 2010 at Crossroads Covenant Church in Forest Lake, Minnesota with Reverend Patty Schardin officiating.
Visitation: following the memorial service, the family will greet friends and relatives for a time of lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall , at Crossroads Covenant Church.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Jessie passed away Friday at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab in Oskaloosa at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 11 days.
Jessie M. Schaefer, daughter of Kenneth and Mildred (Alan) Yeats, was born April 24, 1921 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The oldest of 6 children, Jessie attended school in Minneapolis. After her education Jessie worked as a nanny and for a dry cleaner before marrying Carl William Schaefer. Carl’s career with Honeywell took them to South Bend, Indiana. After Carl’s death in 1967, Jessie moved to their lake home in Marcellus, Michigan to be near close friends. In 1989, Jessie moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana to live with her daughter Pam. They later moved to the rural Bussey, and New Sharon, Iowa areas. Jessie enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors in every place she lived. She was an avid card player and loved Bingo and crossword puzzles. She felt blessed to watch her grandchildren grow up and welcome the birth of her first great-grandchild. In later years, corresponding with her niece, Carol Yeats from Minnesota, brought her great joy. Jessie was a lifetime member of the VFW post 4054 Ladies Auxiliary in Marcellus, Michigan.
Jessie’s family includes a daughter, Pam Brooks of Taintor, Iowa; grandchildren: Justin (Anna) Schaefer of Oskaloosa; Shannon Brooks of Taintor, PO Ross Brooks of Charleston, South Carolina; a great grandson, Nathanial Schaefer of Oskaloosa; a sister, Helen Eggerth of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by step-sons: Bobby and Freddy Schaefer; brothers: Donald and Gerald Yeats; sisters, Dorothy Guisinger and Barbara Shelton; and a niece, Linda (Yeats) Healey.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
