PELLA — The Central College women’s track and field team dominated the Dutch Triangular Saturday, winning by 62 points.

The Dutch men’s team also came away with a first place finish, scoring 59 points to best Simpson by seven.

Zimmerman breaks school record—Senior Meredith Zimmerman (senior, Urbandale) won the 100-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 14.39 seconds. Her time is the fifth fastest in Division III this season.

“The mark that stood out the most to me today was Meredith in the 100 hurdles,” said associate head coach Jim Fuller. “That is a lifetime best. She has improved close to a second from last year. I went through the weight room after the meet and she was lifting. It doesn’t happen by mistake.”

In the 200 meters the Dutch had the top three, and six of the top seven, finishers. Abi Davis (junior, Dowling Catholic HS) won the event in 24.91 and Allie McBroom (senior, Runnells, Southeast Polk HS) took second in 25.68, a new career best. Davis’s time ranks eighth in Division III.

“Allie and Abi ran strong 200’s,” said Fuller. “That is pretty close to Abi’s PR, which got her into the national meet last year.”

In the field events Lorell Stuht (sophomore, Loveland, Colo.) won the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 159-9.

Roemerman leads Central men—Dan Roemerman (junior, Iowa City, City HS) set a new personal best in the 110-meter hurdles (14.55). His time ranks third in Division III and is less than a tenth of a second off of the school record (14.48).

Another Dutch runner setting a new personal best was Drew Jackson (senior, Johnston). He won the 800 meters in 1:52.90 and his time ranks 12th in Division III.

“I thought Drew Jackson’s 800 was really good considering he just ran at Kansas and ran a PR in the steeplechase Thursday night,” said Fuller.

In the javelin Canaan Powell (freshman, Wellman, Mid-Prairie HS) shattered his previous best mark with a toss of 174-7. He finished second to teammate Kody Dailey (junior, Waterloo, City HS) (177-9).

Logan Mulford (sophomore, Mount Pleasant) won the high jump for Central, topping his old career best with a jump of 6-7.5.

Competing in his first outdoor meet of the season, Eric Larson (senior, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock HS) set a new career best in the discus (126-2) and was one tenth of a second off of his top time in the 110-meter hurdles (15.06).

Next week the Dutch track teams will compete at the Drake Relays Wednesday through Saturday and the Kip Janvrin Invitational in Indianola Thursday and Friday.

“I don’t think it is going to be hard to get those kids excited that are competing at Drake,” said Fuller. “That Simpson meet is a really good meet too. I’m always happy with the level of competition there.”
