The 2015 version of the Mahaska County 4-H and FFA Gala took place on Friday at the ISU Extension Office in Oskaloosa.

The event that features a meal and silent auction helps the two groups pay for many of the needed things that help make the Southern Iowa Fair a success. “All of the funds we raise tonight and throughout our campaign will help pay for Judges fees, member premiums, ribbons, trophies and more,” said Amy Brainard, Mahaska County Youth Coordinator for the 4-H program in Mahaska County.

The Mahaska County Cattlemen grilled the meat for the dinner, which was a free-will-donation. Baked beans, green beans and coleslaw, donated by Hy-Vee, rounded out the main menu. There were many desert options made available by volunteers who donated cookies, bars and other treats.

Last year the event raised around $2000, and Brainard hoped the amount this year would be near the same. “We appreciate the support from the community,” added Brainard.
