Davenport–The William Penn women’s bowling team failed to keep up with its league foes at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships Saturday and Sunday.

The Statesmen were seventh in qualifying with 7,917 pins in six regular games and four sets of Bakers. Unfortunately, the Statesmen were unable to advance to bracket play where top-seeded Grand View eventually beat #2 Mount Mercy 4-3 in the finals.

Stephanie Adams (So., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) had the top average for the navy and gold, taking seventh out of 64 players at 198.2. Kelsey Johnson (Sr., Montgomery, Ill., Elementary Education) was only a few spots behind her in 11th at 190.8.

Briell Newberry (Fr., Holland, Mich., Elementary Education), with a 180.6 mark, and Montana Pence (So., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), with a clip of 167.8, both started five games.

Emily Braga (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Communications) and Cybil Lennie (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Undecided) each got into three games, posting averages of 171.3 and 155.7, respectively. Emily Braga (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Communications) knocked down 138 pins in her lone game, while MacKenzie Boyd (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Biology) tallied 135 pins in her only action.

Next Up: William Penn now awaits its postseason fate. The Statesmen should be ranked high enough to compete in the xBowling Team Sectionals on March 14-15, but the question of where the team is headed will be answered this coming week.
