Polk County, – The car belonging to missing Oskaloosa woman Sallie West has been discovered in Beaver Creek north of Grimes along Highway 141.
A Polk County deputy was searching in the area for West, in areas not visible from the roadway, when a car was discovered half submerged in the creek. “He seen the top of a white Pontiac Grand Am, which was later determined to be Sallie West’s vehicle,” said Sgt. Brandon Bracelin of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Bracelin says that a dive team has been called to the area, while the vehicle was removed from the creek. “They determined there was not any body inside the vehicle,” said Bracelin.
Currently, the Iowa Dive Team continues to check the creek area for West, along with several volunteer K-9 units searching the banks of the creek and the general area surrounding the vehicle.
West’s Grand Am has substantial damage to the rear of the vehicle, and Bracelin says he can’t say exactly how the damage occurred, “but it all appeared to be rear-end damage.”
Bracelin said that they are waiting for the accident investigators to finish up their investigation in regards to the damage sustained to the car.
