Cedar Falls–Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Secondary Education) continues to add to his legacy as a beast in the mid-distance events by dominating at the Jack Jennett Invitational hosted by Northern Iowa Friday.

The meet was split into College and University divisions and WPU had numerous champions in the light-numbered smaller section, paced by Edwards’ 800-meter run crown.

The senior notched his third qualification with an automatic-standard time of 1:53.71. He also broke his own school record in the process. Edwards, who had already qualified in the 600 and 1,000-meter events, has three automatic standards and two school records this winter.

The qualifying time was not the only tremendous effort Friday, however, beginning with three event wins by Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa). The junior topped the 60-meter dash in 6.97 seconds, was first in the long jump at 22-5.25, and led all participants in the triple jump at 45-5.75.

Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) also won two competitions, taking first in both the shot put at 49-1 and in the weight throw at 51-3.

Spencer Medlin (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) broke a Statesmen mark in an official race as well, crossing the line in the 400-meter hurdles in 58.79 seconds.

Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) cleared a mark of 6-9.75 to win the high jump, while Markenson Charles (So., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Industrial Technology) earned the 60-meter hurdles title in 9.01 seconds.

Raveen Rhone (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Biology) and Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Undecided) guided the Statesmen women by matching Edwards and Medlin with school records. Rhone broke her own program mark in the triple jump at 34-9, while Alexander set a new record in the 800 at 2:23.17.

Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) was strong as always in the throws, taking titles in the shot put at 40-7.5 and in the weight throw at 49-7.

The long jump crown went to Nykitta Williams (Fr., Kileen, Texas) at 14-8.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Crete, Neb. next Saturday to compete in the Doane Fred Beile Classic.
