Oskaloosa, Iowa – Friday night brought a huge crowd to the Oskaloosa gymnasium as the Indians welcomed their rivals, the Pella Little Dutch. What proceeded to happen was a good old fashioned tail kicking as Oskaloosa reverted back to their old ways for a night. Osky turned the ball over and over and over again, leading to 16 first half turnovers and 28 for the game. It would end up a 79-35 Little Hawkeye Conference loss for the Indians.

On a night when Osky could find little right, the first quarter began with Pella jumping out and getting an easy bucket on a run out, quickly putting the score at 2-0. Osky had the answer in the form of Senior Ki-Jana DeJong, as he hit a little baseline jumper to knot the score at 2-2. Freshman Tanner DeKock made one of two free throws and the score was again tied at, early in the game, at 3-3. That’s when Pella turned up the pressure. Then Osky’s mistakes took over and they never could recover. Pella went on several runs and before you knew it they were up 16-5. Both DeKock, with a 12 ft. jumper, and sophomore Jack Moore, with a bucket and foul, tried to keep Osky in the game. They were able to get the Indians to within six, with a score of 16-10. However, with more turnovers and another run, the quarter ended with the Indians down 22-12.

Junior Wade Votroubek looked to get the Indians headed in the right direction as he drained a 14 ft. jumper to trail 22-14, but the Indians then hit a brick wall for the remainder of the half. Coach Parker had had enough and was looking for anyone who could take care of the ball. He was going up and down the bench to find that answer as Pella continued to stretch out their lead to 38-17 at the half.

Osky came out in the second half basically mirroring the first half. Pella could do what they wanted on offense when they wanted because the Indians still couldn’t take care of the basketball. The one positive is that the bench got some valuable minutes on the floor, which is very important because game time experience is very valuable if your number gets called up.

On this night there was too much fire power from a very good Pella team, as they ran away with a 79-35 victory.

Osky was once again led by Moore with 9 points, while senior Ryan Rieter led in rebounds with 4.

Oskaloosa is now 4-6 on the season and is action Tuesday night, when they travel to Knoxville to take on the Panthers.
