Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa girls were looking to try and take another step forward this season as they welcomed Dallas Center-Grimes to town Tuesday night. What they got was a stampeded from the Phillies as they took one on the chin 58-14.

Oskaloosa could do very little right and DCG could do little wrong on this night. The full court pressure was absolutely suffocating for the Indians as they coughed up the ball. The Indians have faced this same type of pressure nearly all season, with similar results.

On Friday night the Indians played host to the Newton Cardinals, and Oskaloosa was just looking to compete, in hopes of staying close and pulling out a victory. Osky came out of the gates quickly. Sophomore Alexis Westercamp had the hot hand for the Indians as she followed her own miss to get Osky on the board. Westercamp once again put her head down and drove to the basket for another layup, and with some help, the Indians had a 6-2 lead. Newton and Osky both went cold from the floor for the remainder of the quarter. Osky held the 6-5 lead after one quarter.

Westercamp opened the scoring on a follow up bucket, but Newton wouldn’t go away as they were trapping and pressuring the lady Indians in order to get some easy baskets to keep the game close. With the Cardinals leading 14-12 senior Taylor Richardson drilled a long 3 pointer, closing the half with the Indians leading 15-14.

Coming out of the halftime Oskaloosa was right where they wanted to be in the ballgame. Both teams had plenty of opportunity but Oskaloosa just couldn’t hit any of their free throws. Newton, in the meantime, was converting to help spread the lead out. Westercamp and Richardson tried to help the Indians keep pace, but Newton pulled away with timely baskets and a 37-26 win in Little Hawkeye Conference action. Oskaloosa was led by Westercamp with 12 pts. followed by Richardson with 6 pts.

Saturday night the Indians traveled to North Mahaska for a non-conference action. The Indians came away with a 64-54 win after being tied at the half with the Warhawks. Oskaloosa senior Taylor Richardson had a huge game with 26 pts., 4 rebs., 4 asst. and 4 steals. Sophomore Alexis Westercamp added an additional 18 pts.

Oskaloosa is now 2-6 on the season and will be in action again Tuesday night, as they take on Norwalk on the road in another Little Hawkeye Conference action.
