Pella, Iowa – The Oskaloosa boy’s basketball team came into the ball game Friday night with a 2-1 record, looking to continue their early season success. They did just that for the majority of the first quarter. What followed that first quarter is something head coach Ryan Parker and his team would just as soon forget.

Osky came out with good intensity and were running their offense with patience, trading baskets with the Eagles throughout much of the quarter. Senior Ki-Jana DeJong and sophomore Jack Moore got the offense started, as DeJong had two baskets in the paint and Moore hit a baseline jumper for the early 6-2 lead.

The Eagles pressure caused a couple of turnovers, capitalizing to take the lead 8-6. Senior Max Johnson had something to say about that. Johnson drove hard to the basket tying the game up at 8-8. Pella Christian would then go on a 6 point run, to finish the quarter out front 14-8.

The second quarter began with Moore having a layup and making free throw. Oskaloosa was within 6 as they trailed 19-13.

From there Osky was its own worst enemy, turning the basketball over at an alarming rate. PC was more than happy to take the free gifts, as they moved out to a double digit lead and never looked back.

PC was hot from the outside and Osky was late in closing out. Further hindering the Indians, PC began to drive to the basket, getting easy baskets. PC went to halftime break leading 37-15.

Second half was more of the same nightmare as Osky just couldn’t take care of the basketball. The Indians struggled to execute their offense and eventually ended up falling to the Eagles 68-44.

Leading the way for the Indians was Moore with 11 pts. and 3 rebs.,  senior Tanner Lanphier with 7 pts. and junior Ethan Farner with 5 pts. and 4 rebs.

Osky shot a very cold 39% for the game.

Oskaloosa falls to 2-2 on the season, they are in action next Tuesday night when they travel to Washington for a non-conference game.
