Iowa DNR Goes Fishing For Impalas

Car In Water

The owner of this Chevy Impala was surprised to see her parked car roll down a boat ramp and into the Des Moines river at Eveland Access just south of Oskaloosa.

Mahaska County – A simple walk around the park lead to a strange situation for the driver of a late model Chevy Impala.

After parking on the boat ramp at Evenland Access south of Oskaloosa, Cindy Stevenson called in to report that the car had rolled down the ramp and into the Des Moines River.

The call to the Mahaska County 911 Center came in at 4:39pm. By the time officers arrived the car had floated approximately 200 yards down the river and appeared to be hung-up on a sand bar.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources assisted with the recovery of the vehicle on Tuesday morning, when tow truck operators used a boat to connect a cable to the mostly submerged vehicle.
