If the Osky girls didn’t know before Friday night that they were one of the top teams in class 4A, they know it now.  Oskaloosa gave the defending State Champs and current #1 team, Dallas Center Grimes, everything they could handle in a 1-0 victory for DCG.

DCG came into the game with arguably the best pitcher in the state, Paige Lowary. Lowary is moving on to the University of Missouri after this season. Oskaloosa had its answer in Alexis Groet. Groet is one of the best freshman pitchers in the state for Oskaloosa.

The match-up that transpired over the next 7 innings was an instant classic or, as some will say, round 1 of a 3 round fight, as Osky will get two more cracks at DCG this season.

Lowary was as advertised. She baffled the Osky hitters in throwing a complete game no-hitter, while walking two batters and striking out 12 Indians.

DCG scrapped together their lone run in the 4th as Groet and the Indian defense worked out of a couple of jams and fought and clawed to hang with DCG. Coach Harms said he is excited to get a couple more games against DCG later in the season.

Osky started the week off with a big Little Hawkeye Conference win at Pella Christian, as Fr. Groet was her usual workman like pitcher, shutting out the Eagles in a 9-0 Indian win. Leading the way for the Indians was Jr. Peyton Zickefoose who had 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI’s. Freshman Aubrey Miller had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.

Tuesday night took the lady Indians to Washington in a non-conference double-header. Oskaloosa rode the strong pitching of So. Kylee Silliman and Fr. Groet to the double header sweep winning 5-1 and 4-2.

Osky was led by Sr. Callie Arnold whose bat was on fire, going 4-8 in the double header with a huge double and home-run to go with 3 RBI’s. Jr.

Peyton Zickefoose kept her bat hot going 4-4 in the first game. In the second game Sr. Kelsie Tomlin went 4-4 with a double and RBI, but the big stick was Fr. Alexis Westercamp going 2-3 with a 3 run home-run to seal the victory for Osky.

Wednesday night the Indian road show took them to Grinnell to take on the Tigers in another LHC double header. Oskaloosa found the Grinnell field to their liking and they pasted the Lady Tigers 6-0 and 11-1.

It may sound like a broken record but the two headed pitching monster of Groet and Silliman were once again dominant as they shut down the Tigers in both games. Osky was led by Bethany Rowley in game 1 as she went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s. Miller and Risher both had an RBI each and Arnold was 2-4.

In the second game Osky exploded, and was led by Arnold who went 4-5, with 2 doubles and 4 RBI’s. Miller was 2-4 with 3 RBI’s, and Silliman went 2-4 with a double and 1 RBI.

Osky is now 14-1 on the season and their #8 ranking should be intact after this last week.
