Oskaloosa, Iowa – Two tractor trailers tangled up on Highway 163 at approximately 1:24 pm Monday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol accident report, the first truck, a 2014 International Prostar, driven by 63 year-old Larry VanWyngarden was traveling north on Highway 163  in the right lane. According to the report, VanWyngarden then merged into the left lane, merging into the side of the second truck, a 1997 Peterbuilt 379, that was driven by 33 year-old Jonathon Howerton of Collins.

The Peterbuilt, driven by Howerton, was in the left lane passing the International. Both vehicles lost control and entered the median. The International separated from the trailer it was pulling, with the trailer coming to rest on the travel portion of the highway, while the truck came to rest in the median. The Peterbuilt driven by Howerton rolled onto its passenger side and slid into the median.

Both drivers were transported to Mahaska Health Partnership.
