Oskaloosa, IA—Three members of William Penn University’s Iowa Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi, a national collegiate honor society, attended the Society’s national convention in St. Louis, MO, March 27–29, where they presented an original academic paper.
Courtney Kleinschmidt (Sr. majoring in Human Services and Psychology) from Washington, IA presented a paper on the dynamics associated with contemporary sex trafficking.

Samantha (Mead) McCulley (Sr. majoring in Psychology and Human Services) from Mason City, IA presented a paper on effects of internet pornography consumption on actual relationships.
Aspiring to the academic life, these students joined nearly four-hundred others at the annual event. One of this year’s convention highlights was formal recognition of U.S. Army Four-star General Tommy Franks (ret.) for his distinguished career of service. Recipient of the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award, General Franks was inducted into Alpha Chi in 1968 while enrolled in the University of Texas at Arlington. Among his many current responsibilities, including work with his eponymous Leadership Institute and Museum, General Franks is a member of the William Penn University Board of Trustees. Kleinschmidt, Giannotti, and McCulley were delighted to have the opportunity to hear the General’s wisdom for living a productive life and to meet him personally.
