Beacon Mayor Shawn Maxwell draws a name out of the hat to end the deadlock in the city election.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met at 1:00 pm on Monday afternoon. Two things rested on their agenda, a 28E agreement to help supply law enforcement services for the town of Fremont and then to certify the runoff election of December 3rd, 2013.

Both the agreement and the results from the election were passed, but that still left one more seat in the county yet to be decided.

The town of Beacon had to fill one more city council seat that hadn’t been decided in the runoff. Dwight Teeter and Charity Bru both finished with 18 votes in that election.

The city council then met Monday night with a single item on the agenda, to draw a name from the hat to end the deadlock.

Current mayor, Shawn Maxwell drew the name of the winner from the hat held by city clerk Jill Finneman.

Dwight Teeter was the candidate’s name that was drawn, and he will now join the council at its first meeting of the year on January 7, 2013 at 7pm at the Beacon City Hall.
