Motorcycle Rider Dies In Early Morning Crash

Eddyville, Iowa – A 61 year-old Churdan, Iowa man was killed in an early morning motorcycle accident at 3260 Merino Avenue, just off Highway 63 and near Eddyville Raceway Park.

The accident was reported at 1:22 am.

According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, Sammy L. Baugh, age 61, was going northeast on Merino Ave when he lost control of his vehicle and drove onto the shoulder coming to a stop in the northeast ditch. Baugh was transported by Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.

A second motorcycle driven by Matthew D. Kraft, age 31, of Rockwell City, who was also going northeast on Merino Ave, also lost control behind the motorcycle of Baugh and also entered the northeast ditch. Kraft was injured but refused medical attention.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Mahaska and Monroe County Sheriff’s Offices, along with Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services.
