Oskaloosa Prepares For Election Day

Voters head for the polls today. Voting ends at 9 pm.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – It’s the night before the big election,  and the feeling is that people are ready for the votes to be cast and counted.

It’s a normal enough evening in Oskaloosa. The traffic is humming by downtown as folks hurry home for supper, or off to a local vocal music concert.

But the question on many people’s minds is about the election, and how it’s results will impact our country and even our state and county governments.

By late in the evening on Tuesday, America should know who will be leading the country for the next four years, and Mahaska County residents will be aware of who’s going to help lead them locally.

There was still campaign action happening, but most of it was final door knocking efforts and phone calls.

Optimism abounds on both sides of the political isle that their candidate will be successful in their bid for office, but poll numbers show it’s a split decision.

In Mahaska County records were set for early and absentee voting numbers as people and campaigns  have started to utilize the opportunity of getting votes locked in early.

Polls in Mahaska County will be open from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, after which the returns will start becoming available at the auditor’s office.
