Oskaloosa, Iowa – There are few rivalries locally that are as intense as the one that exists between Oskaloosa and Pella.  This past Thursday night the Oskaloosa Varsity Volleyball, under the direction of Jennifer Comfort, claimed a decisive victory over the Dutch.

The Varsity Girls came out strong by claiming a quick victory of 25-9 in the opening set over the Dutch, but the Dutch would make them earn the following two sets with scores of 26-24 and 25-23 respectively.

Coach Comfort said, “I think we did have a really good start and the girls played really good volleyball the rest of the game. Pella really stepped up their play and I think our girls played just that much harder, and they really showed that they are good volleyball players and they have a lot of fight in them.”

“They executed exactly like I wanted them too. It was a really good match by all the athletes.”

The team currently holds a 6 and 5 record and is 1-0 in conference play. Comfort said that it’s early in the season yet, but she still sees room for improvement, “We’ll just keep bringing our game up better every match.”

Kate Hasselman led the Indians with 14 kills, Taylor Crawford and Kailyn Risher each adding 6 additional. Taylor Crawford paced the Indians in serves with 20 and had 3 aces. Kailyn Risher along with Kate Hasselman each added 11 good serves and 2 aces.

Allie Christenson served up 23 assists in the game, with 3 other teammates each adding 1 each. Shawni Wills and Kena Veldhuizen each scored 5 digs, Kate Hasselman 3 additional.
