Community Event Seeks To Bring Community Together
The gazebo area at the new Urban Park was filled as many area residents came out to support the grand opening back in May of this year. Midnight Express Mobile DJ Service hopes to help once again draw a crowd from the community.
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The new urban park, sometimes known as the skate park, has been open for public use all summer now. It has been a very busy place, except for when extremely hot, but will see some diminished use with school going back into session soon.
Kevin Dillion and Miranda Grooters, owners of Midnight Express Mobile DJ Service, wanted to find a way to give back to the community. At the same time they want to bring the community together for a fun event to help raise money and accept donations for United Way’s drive to acquire cold weather gear.
Dillion said that there is little for the 18 and under crowd,as far as activities in town, and thought that being able to utilize the new park was a natural fit. He points out the many opportunities for those 21 and over, and hopes this will help bring multiple age groups, and the community, together for an evening of enjoyment.
Brianne Fitzgerald,Executive Director United Way of Mahaska County, recently sent out a note about the event. “United Way was approached by Midnight Express Mobile DJ’s here in Oskaloosa, as they wanted to hold an event and give all the proceeds to support our children’s winter outerwear quest this fall. As you know, each year United Way holds an annual coat drive, but this year we are focusing more on the children’s outerwear and trying to make sure all children can stay warm this winter AND attend recess at school. Without snow pants, gloves, hats and boots, they cannot attend recess in the snow.”
