Lengthy Line Awaited Area Residents Looking For Obama Tickets

Kelly Wheeler emerges from the OFA office with the first pair of tickets to President Obama’s visit to Oskaloosa.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The morning started off cool, but quickly heated up. Individuals stood in the sun, many for two or more hours, as the line continued to grow. It snaked down High Ave and around the corner, going north on South Second Street.

The Obama Campaign staff wouldn’t release how many tickets they were distributing, but those in line were able to acquire two tickets, if needed, versus the one ticket per person as had been released in earlier press releases.

Kelly Wheeler found her way to the front of the line or, to be more specific, started the line by being first to the OFA office, which is located in the old Stapp Drug building just north of the courthouse. Wheeler said she is excited to see the President. “I saw him in Smokey Row four years ago, shook his hand. I’m very excited that he’s President and coming to our town. I can’t wait to see him.”

Sheryl Davis is a Democrat that supports the President foremost, primarily because “I’m a promoter for veterans. I feel he’s tried to do the best he can with the circumstances to help them. He got them out of Iraq and he’s trying to get them out of Afghanistan.”

Davis thinks that it’s wonderful that the President is coming to Oskaloosa. “I think for him to come to small towns so we can see him instead of being out in the big city, I think this is awesome.”

According to campaign officials about the topic the President will discuss in Oskaloosa. “The President will discuss the choice in this election between two fundamentally different visions of how to create an economy built to last and restore middle-class economic security.”

“President Obama has a vision for an economy built from the middle out, not the top down. During his first term, President Obama has already cut taxes for a typical Iowa family by about $3,600. This has helped Iowa families afford to send their children to college, buy their first home, pay for health care and child care. The centerpiece of the Romney-Ryan economic proposals is a $5 trillion tax plan that independent economists have confirmed would raise taxes on middle class families with children by an average of more than $2,000 in order to pay for tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires.”

Doors Open at 9:00 am at Nelson Pioneer Farm. If your planning on driving out to the farm and parking early to get a good spot, there is little need. No on-site parking is available. There will be a shuttle provided to and from the event.

According to the release: with a ticket, parking is available at the Oskaloosa High School. They ask that you arrive by 8:30 am, with the final shuttle bus departing at 10:20 am.

According to the campaign, “It is important to arrive early in order to pass through security. Seating at the event is first come, first serve. A ticket is required for entry into this event. All attendees must take the provided shuttle to attend the event.”

As a precaution, security is asking that you only bring a small camera. Cell phones are also permitted but to please limit personal belongings. “Do not bring bags, umbrellas, or sharp objects.” Also, signs will not be permitted into the event.

Water will be provided at the event.
