Joshua Leigh Tucker
Joshua Leigh Tucker was born February 22, 1993 in Springfield, Missouri, and far too soon, was welcomed to his Eternal Home on May 16, 2012 at the age of 19 years, 2 months, and 23 days. Josh loved all his family and so many others too. He attended schools in Newton, Iowa and Springfield, Missouri, and was a 2011 graduate of Glendale High School. Josh was known as a young man full of life and energy with a drive for excellence, yet ever ready to help another with a kind and compassionate heart. He displayed such character whether in the classroom, on the golf course, in competitive Debate, in church youth group and Bible camps, in part time jobs, or just hanging with friends or family. Josh successfully completed his first year at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, on academic and golf scholarships while becoming actively involved in campus life, and was looking forward to his future. Already in middle school, Josh discovered the joy of community service and outreach, traveling multiple times following Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild areas of New Orleans, and more recently home restoration in Denver on his college Spring break. Summer 2011 he traveled with his church group to Ecuador in a mission to share the Gospel. Most importantly, Josh openly confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Among the many loved ones Josh left behind are his parents Jeff and Donna Tucker, sister Emma Tucker, and sister and brother Megan and Scott Wortman, all of Springfield, Missouri; Grandparents Arlene and Dick Wiedmann of Oskaloosa; many aunts, uncles, and cousins including two special young boys Jack and Jarod Miller; and a host of friends.
Besides a beloved uncle and cousin, Joshua was preceded in death by his paternal Grandfather, Jack Tucker, and maternal Grandparents Harold and Martha Nieuwsma, all of Oskaloosa, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the valuable assistance of Bates funeral home.
Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 22 at 1:00 pm at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. A funeral procession from Bates Funeral Home will commence at 12:40 pm, and a family reception will immediately follow the service at the First Christian Church. Memorials will be accepted for the furtherance of Missions, designated to High Street Baptist Church, or Heartland Covenant Church, Springfield, Missouri.
