One Killed In Two Car Accident Near Chillicothe

Chillicothe, Iowa – A two vehicle accident, at the intersection of Eddyville Road and Highway 63, has left an 87 year old West Des Moines woman dead.

Winfred Douglass was traveling northbound on Eddyville road when, according to the Iowa State Patrol, she failed to yield the right-of-way from the stop sign. The 2006 Chevy Impala was struck on the left, on the drivers door, by a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by Dennis Cockayne Jr, age 42 of Des Moines. Cockayne was traveling east on 63 at the time of the accident and both vehicles ended up in the median.

Cockayne was transported to Ottumwa Regional Heath Center by ambulance. Douglass was transported to the State Medical Examiner by Reece Funeral Home.

The State Patrol was assisted on scene by the Wapello County Sheriffs Office, Wapello County Rural Fire and Ottumwa Ambulance.
