Barnstormers Rookie Night A Huge Success

Joking and laughter filled the gym of Oskaloosa High School as the Barnstormer Rookie Night talent show helped to raise funds for the school's cardio room.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – For nearly the past 2 weeks, Oskaloosa has had the pleasure of playing host for the Iowa Barnstormers training camp at the PAC on the campus of William Penn University.

Thursday night, the Barnstormers landed at Oskaloosa High School for some food and conversation once again with the community. Players and coaches were spread out at different tables, as fans and players took the opportunity to share and ask questions.

The tickets for the supper were $10.00 which included a meal of salad, pork, chicken, potato, veggies, desert with ice cream and drink. For that you also got entrance into the rookie talent show to follow. The cost was $5.00 if you showed up just for the talent show.

The rookie Barnstormers prepared for their big show, with the solo acts kicking off the nights entertainment.

Poetry, thoughts from the heart, singing and dancing- including boy band style, a balancing act, and an impression of Coach Hohensee were all highlights of the solo acts.

With a large crop of rookies, many of them teamed up to help speed the show along. One team had a Barnstormer trivia contest, while others had singing and dancing with some audience participation.

Yet another rookie Barnstormer/magician, David Bedford, recounted his experience, at the age of 3 days old, of climbing out of his crib to take a few laps around the family pool, but was infused with special powers from a lighting bolt while in the water. By the 4th day, he knew he had special powers. So with the help of a young audience member, and his Barnstormer/magician partner, he demonstrated his ‘powers’.

An ‘alternate picture’ display was presented, with loud and laughing response from all those in attendance; many times from the victims themselves.

The fundraiser will help to equip the cardio exercise room at the Oskaloosa High School.

The Barnstormers have one remaining event at the Oskaloosa Christian School where they host a Family Night on Friday, March 2, in the gymnasium, with dinner and games for the whole family. This event and fundraiser will begin at 6:00 p.m. and go until 8:00 p.m. Meal tickets are $5.00 per person with free will donations accepted.
