This Day in Iowa Weather History August 22
2002: Thunderstorms produced torrential rainfall and flash flooding across much of Delaware and Dubuque counties on the night of August 21-22 with the Dubuque airport recording 8.95 inches of rain overnight and Cascade reporting 7.55 inches.
1989: Severe thunderstorms crossed northern Iowa producing golf ball sized hail at May City in Osceola County and a wind gust to 66 mph at Balltown in Dubuque County. Lightning struck a barn in Fayette County killing 750 hogs.
