United Way of Mahaska County Extends A Sincere Thanks
Oskaloosa, IA – It is hard to believe it is almost 2012, and with that comes the end of our 2011 Winter Coat Drive. We received donations of over 750 coats this year. Of those donated coats, 402 of them were distributed to members of the community that required them to stay warm during the harsh Iowa winters. Over 300 hats, 290 gloves, 253 scarves, and 37 boots were distributed as well. The items that were not distributed were taken to various local non-profits, and will be distributed to clients free of charge.
The success of this drive could not have happened without the following businesses and organizations offering to host donation boxes: William Penn University, Walmart, BankIowa, MidWestOne Bank, Mahaska YMCA, New Directions, New Hope Community Center, Maple Ridge Assisted Living, Fareway, Curves, Smokey Row, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Calvary Bible Church, First Christian Reformed Church, Imagine the Possibilities, Edward Jones, and Chris Yarkosky’s Zumba Classes.
We would like to extend our thanks to all the members of the community that donated winter gear this year, and helped our drive by hosting a donation site. It is because of you that members of our community will have a warm coat this winter, and children will have boots and snow pants to play outside at school recess. This is the greatest holiday gift you can give.
