One Nation Under God

Happy Thanksgiving and “Black Friday” weekend. I pray that you have had a blessed time with friends and family this week and even maybe found some great deals during the extreme Christmas shopping sport of Black Friday shopping. However great the deal, someday the items purchased will be in a landfill or burned as junk. The eternal relationship that God seeks with you through the redemptive work of His Son is everlasting and timeless.

The treasures that God has pointed us to time and time again are those that we store in heaven. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). Of course, this is not a deterring from enjoying different facets of this life. It is a reminder of what really matters as we live in a very commercially minded culture. I love this time of year as we prepare for many hours we will spend in the presence of our friends, family, and loved ones. We are all created in God’s image and while we spend time together, it is wonderful that we can talk of the One who came to save us from our sins.

In Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Address, he said, “I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” – Well said Abe!

If there is anything that we can do to at the Park church of Christ this season, please contact us at 641-673-4481. Until next week, God bless you all!
