Oskaloosa Mayhem donates to MHP Mammography fund
OSKALOOSA – The Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls Roller Derby Squad recently donated $400 to Mahaska Health Partnership Radiology Services for use in funding free or reduced cost digital mammograms for women.
According to Oskaloosa Mayhem representative Lisa Alderson, the team regularly gives a portion of the proceeds from their bouts to a local charity. “October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we wanted to support local women who need assistance in getting this live-saving screening,” Alderson said. The team donated proceeds from their Oct. 8 bout in Ottumwa at the Bridgeview Center.
Through a grant provided by the Southeast Iowa Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Mahaska Health Partnership has funds available to help pay for the cost of a digital mammogram. Applying for the funds is simple because the ultimate goal is to ensure every woman who needs a mammogram gets one as early as possible.
“We are very happy to have this kind of local support as grant funding is becoming much more difficult to obtain,” said MHP Director of Radiology Julie Hartke. “The cause affects many people locally so it’s wonderful to have so much community support.”
The Oskaloosa Mayhem team will begin their new season on March 24. For more information on their schedule visit their Facebook page or email them at omg.rollerderby@gmail.com. For information about obtaining a free or reduced cost mammogram, contact MHP Radiology at 641-672-3322.
