Thelma C. Klyn Hervey, 75, of Hedrick passed away November 11, 2011, at her home in Hedrick. Thelma was born February 19, 1936, near Albia, the daughter of Marion and Bessie Theurer Klyn. She grew up in the Albia-Eddyville area and graduated from Eddyville High School with the class of 1952. On December 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to Don Hervey in Des Moines. She worked as a telephone operator for five years in Albia until her marriage to Don. Together they owned and operated Don Hervey Trucking in Hedrick where she worked as the bookkeeper. Thelma was a den mother for Boy Scouts as well as a member and treasurer of the South English Methodist Church. After moving to Hedrick she helped with congregate meals and was a member of the United Methodist Women at Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church and the ODO Club. Thelma’s life could best be summed up by her love of family and friends. She enjoyed no place as much as being at home surrounded by those she loved. When not with her family she could be found with a good cup of coffee, reading a book or playing on her computer. She also enjoyed square dancing and camping at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion with her close friends and family. Thelma is survived by her husband Don, of Hedrick; a daughter, Susie Fowler, of Sigourney; five grandchildren, Amanda (Dave) Smothers, Sara Fowler, Trenten Hervey, Cody Fowler and Samantha Hervey; three great-grandchildren; Payton Hammes, Lyla Smothers and Aiden Smothers; a sister, Sandra Vikto, of Albia; and a brother, Glen (Evelyn) Klyn, of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard “Rick” Hervey; a great-grandson, Teagon Fowler; and two brothers, Max and Lloyd Klyn.
Memorials may be made to the Thelma Hervey Memorial Fund.
