Oskaloosa Police Remind Drivers To Plan For Snow Emergency

The winter season is fast approaching and now is the time to plan for a snow emergency.

The Oskaloosa Police Department reminds citizens that when winter weather conditions become severe, with snow fall, ice, freezing rain or sleet causing difficult travel conditions, the City Manager has the authority to declare a snow emergency within the city.

This announcement will be made through local media outlets and should give the date and time that the snow emergency begins You can call the Oskaloosa Police Department at 673-3201 or after 5:00 p.m., or weekends, 672-2557. You may also call Oskaloosa City Hall at 673-9431 during normal business hours to see if a snow emergency has been declared.

When a snow emergency is declared, no on-street parking is allowed to aid the Street Department road crews in the orderly clearing of city streets. If you leave your vehicle parked on city streets during a snow emergency, you may receive a $25 parking ticket and/or your vehicle could be towed at your expense. Citizens who do not have off-street parking available to them may park their vehicles(s) in the city parking lots within the central business district. Once the street is plowed you should remove your vehicle from the parking lot so that they can be plowed.
