Melanie was born the daughter of Melvin Harold Armstrong and Viola Marene Ruble Armstrong on December 15, 1954 in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Grinnell.

She was married to Jackson Earl Belcher on July 4th, 1975 in Juarez, Mexico. The couple lived in Texas and then moved to Grinnell. Her marriage to Jackson ended in 1977. Later that year she met Daniel Leroy Rubendall who she was with from 1977-2002 and they resided in Grinnell. Melanie was a homemaker until early 2011 when she started working at Progressive Industries in Newton, Iowa.

Melanie was a loving and proud mother, grandmother and sister. She held a special love for animals, especially her dog and companion Taffy. She was a big kid at heart who enjoyed the group outings with her friends at the Station Clubhouse and special times the family enjoyed with her at Adventureland. She will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and being a true friend to many.

Melanie is survived by her loving children, Colin (Jennifer) Belcher of Orlando, Florida, Ashley (Stan Shawler) Rubendall of Grinnell, Iowa, and Lindsey Duncan of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren; and her siblings, Ginger (Glenn) Sterk of Grinnell, Steven (Mary) Armstrong of Covington, Washington, Tim (Wanda) Armstrong of Grinnell, and Crystal Wahl of Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two nephews, Dr. Kevin Sterk and Kyle Sterk.
