Terry was born on January 16, 1949, in Grinnell, Iowa to Cecil and Maxine Roth Roberts. He was raised in Hartwick and graduated from HLV High School with the Class of 1967. Following his education he assisted his father in the tank wagon business and worked for the Doty Electric and Plumbing Service in Brooklyn. On February 28, 1970, he was married to Sandra Doty in Brooklyn.
On February 28, 1970, he was married to Sandra Doty in Brooklyn. The couple lived briefly in Cedar Rapids before moving to Brooklyn in 1971. He worked for General Telephone Company in Grinnell and later owned and operated Roberts Electric Service. He was also employed as a maintenance man for Brookhaven Nursing Home and since 2000, he worked in facilities management at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He retired in 2007.
Terry was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and had served with the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department from 1976 to 2006. He had also held local, state and regional offices in the Jaycees. He enjoyed camping and traveling to Mexico and assisting family and friends with mowing and snow removal. His family and pet dogs were very important to him.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy Roberts of Brooklyn; his children, Shawn Roberts of Oskaloosa, Scott Roberts of Brooklyn, and Jason (Nicole) Roberts of Deep River; seven grandchildren, Matthew Innis, Dalton, Cody, Levi, Breanna, Emily and Jerica Roberts; his parents, Cecil and Maxine Roberts of Belle Plaine; two sisters, Jeanne (Ed) Langhurst of Marion and Julie (Bob) Breja of Belle Plaine; and three sister-in-laws, Becky (Louie) Higdon of Fort Mohave, Arizona, Donna (Alan) Muntz of Grinnell and Patti (Clif) Martin of Abingdon, VA. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
