Indians Cruise Past Chargers

Chariton, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians looked nothing of their normal selves during the first few minutes of Friday night’s game at Chariton. Coach Schilb said the Indians were a “little flat at the beginning.”
“Our kids stepped it up and Tyler made a big play there on the pass and Austin great catch, good protection,” Schilb said.
“That really jumped us,” Schilb said of the initial score by the Indians in response to the Chargers score.
The night will be known for its’ hard hits. “After we kind of woke up a little bit, we were being physical getting off the ball, playing like we want to play. Our secondaries coming up delivering a big hit on the fake punt. You know, I think it started with Tyler seeing the quarterback making a big play really jumped us, that was a great pass.”
Coach Schilb says the focus of this next week remains the regular season and Mt. Pleasant. “They’ve got some good athletes over there, I’ve seen them on film a little bit, we’ll have to get ready to go. Play them. That will be our focus.”
Despite a fresh injury of Zach Mich with a separated shoulder, and Logan Wiltse still out with injury, the Indians stilled worked. Schilb says the remaining injuries are progressing each week.
“Once we got going, feel good about our base play. The off tackle power play did well once the team figured out what the opposition was doing.”
The Indians were woken up by the Chargers, who were the first to score on a Eugene Zinchenko run down the middle for a Chariton score. The PAT kick by Chasen Blue was no good, putting the Chargers on top 6-0 with 3:06 on the clock.

The spark in the Indian offense came on a 70 yard pass from Tyler Hafner connecting with Austin Redlich for the TD. Cook booted the PAT for a 7-6 Indian lead at 2:13 on the clock in the first quarter.
Rowley, who was being stopped early on by the Chargers, got the better of them and took off for a 33 yard down the middle with :12 on the clock. Cook once again delivered on the PAT and the Indians were cruising to a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Rowley once again carry the ball going 29 yards down the left side for a touchdown. Cook’s PAT was good, and the Indians were off to a 21-6 lead with 10:05 on the clock in the second quarter.
Quarterback Tyler Hafner was able to sneak in from 3 yards out on a run down the middle to score his first running TD of the night. Cook’s PAT was good and the Indians were on top 28-6 with 8:01 on the clock in the second quarter.
Less than a minute after scoring, Hafner once again ran down the middle, this time for 26 yards scoring his second rushing TD of the contest. Cook’s PAT was good and put the Indians up 35-6 with 7:11 remaining in the second quarter.
Dillion Daniel made his mark in the end zone with a 19 yard run to the right with 2:33 remaining on the clock. Cook sailed another PAT over the uprights to put the Indians up 42-6.
Finishing out the half was the 42 yard run to the left by Andrew Landgrebe for the TD. With :55 on the clock, Cooks kick was once again good and the score heading into halftime was: Indians 49 and the Chargers 6.
The 35 point rule was in effect during the second half meaning that the clock would only be stopped for special circumstances. The final score of the evening came in the fourth quarter. Landrebe once again dashed 10 yards to the right for the TD. A run by Hunter Sherwood for the two point conversion came up short with 4:48 on the clock in the fourth quarter.
