Bomb Squad Personnel Called For Suspicious Box

Sigourney, Iowa – October 11, 2011 From a Sigourney Police Department Press Release

At approximately 3:40 pm on Tuesday October 11, 2011 the Sigourney Police Department was notified that the U.S. Post Office, located at 115 W. Washington Street in Sigourney, reported a suspicious box behind their building.

The Police Department and U.S. Postal Inspectors office decided to contact the State Fire Marshall’s Bomb Squad. Persons within a 300 foot radius were asked to temporarily leave the area as a precaution.

Bomb Squad personnel analyzed the box and determined it did not contain anything hazardous.

Other agencies assisting with the incident were the Sigourney Public Works Department, Iowa State Patrol, Sigourney Fire Department, and Keokuk County Sheriff’s Department.
