Obituary:
Fern Wilma Beaver was born on November 13, 1917 in Clay Township, Iowa, the daughter of Louie Samuel Beaver and Hester May Vanalst.
She could best be described as somebody who was just “going” all the time. Fern enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and watching the Cubs or Bulls play, even keeping her own player stats. She always put others first and was a loving care taker to many. Fern was an excellent cook and made the best fried potatoes and creamed peas.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa.
Fern passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 12 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gordon Hegwood; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Survivors include her sons, Gene (Carolyn) Hegwood of Pershing, Gary (Marilyn) Hegwood of Pella; 7 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; brother, Cliff (Leta) Beaver of Ottumwa, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
