Sharon Kay Van Rossum
Sharon Kay Van Rossum, 59, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Friday, July 11, 1952, at Oskaloosa the daughter of Edward and Marjorie Tucker Mitrisin. She graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1970. On December 8, 1973, she was united in marriage to Larry Van Rossum at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. She worked at the Iowa Dress Club until the late 1990’s. Then she went to work at Kid’s Corner caring for the one and two year olds, she worked there until August of 2011 when illness no longer allowed her to work. She delighted in her family especially spending time with her grandchildren. Sharon enjoyed caring for and doing crafts with young children at daycare and tending to her flower garden.
Her family includes her husband Larry Van Rossum of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Jodi (& Jason) Haines of University Park; a son: Ryan Van Rossum of Oskaloosa; 3 grandchildren: Andrew Huffman, Maddie and Izzy Haines; her parents: Edward and Marjorie Mitrisin of Oskaloosa; a brother: Mark (& Julie) Mitrisin of Oskaloosa and many aunts, uncles and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin Friday after 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Oskaloosa Christian School or to Kid’s Corner.
