Rozenboom Considers Run For Iowa Senate

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Mahaska County Supervisor Ken Rozenboom is considering a run for the Iowa Senate.

Rozenboom says that he isn’t sure when he will make a formal announcement about his intentions to run for the Iowa Senate. Currently work is going on behind the scenes to make that happen.

Rozenboom has spoken with his possible soon to be Democrat opponent, Tom Rielly, “because that’s how I like to do things,” Rozenboom said.

I questioned Rozenboom as to his timing of running for the seat and why he is choosing to do so. “There’s no secret about the balance of power in the Senate in Des Moines. I would like to see that balance of power change. I think I can play a role in that.” He went on to say, “I think we need to make every effort to do our part to change that balance of power. I’m frustrated that Mike Gronstal and other Senate Democrats basically blocked a lot of legislation, they blocked debate. In our system of government, we should be able to at least debate the issue, and some of these were simply locked out of debate. I think we have an opportunity to change that here locally.”

Rozenboom continued, “It’s no secret that Republicans want a strong candidate in this senate district. After thinking about it and praying about it for a couple of weeks I’ve decided that’s what I am going to do.”

I asked Ken about his recent step into political office, and the quick jump possibly to running for the Iowa Senate. “I’m new to holding political office, I’m not new to politics. I’ve followed politics very closely all my life, and I’m in a time in my life I can consider some of these options. I’m a working man, always have been, I have to be able to provide for my family and make a living. I’m in a position now where I can do both, that’s why I decided to step into the race for Supervisor. I think this presents a unique opportunity to influence things certainly locally, beyond just Mahaska County and certainly state wide.”

Rozenboom has been a life long resident of the Mahaska County area with many ties to the farming community.
